Terry Hastings
Terry Hastings, at the age of four, came down the steps of his home with the encyclopedia opened to some music printed on the page and asked his mother “What do these sound like?” His parents went out and bought him a piano and piano lessons. And then it was a drum set and lessons for band. And then it was voice lessons for choir. And then speech. And then paint… and… Eventually Terry bought his own stuff, including a degree in Theatre.
He opened up the shop “Identity Fashions”, a bespoke clothing store with then partner and designer Yani Santos. They needed a website but with the cost of photographers, film and developing being so high, Terry bought himself a digital camera. And with his “”F*** it, I can do this” attitude, taught himself how to work a camera and Photoshop.
In September 2009, Terry moved to Palm Springs. This amazingly picturesque landscape inspired Terry to try many exciting ideas under the umbrella title “Paradise: Lost & Found” How One Man’s Wasteland Is Another Man’s Oasis.
His current series of photos – “Theoretical Potential” – shows the desert wind as having the power to destroy or create, to kill or to energize. There is also an underlying message of man’s need to develop renewable resources like wind and solar power both quite abundant in the desert before war, greed and ecological malfeasance destroy the world as we know it.
